Pet: A field mouse, which he carries in his pocket at all times, but he hasn't thought of a good name for it yet, even though he's had it for almost a year now. He thought about calling it "James," but decided not to, because that would be too confusing, and he couldn't be sure that it was a boy anyway. and calls James, Jr. His mother also has a tawny owl named Sheridan, which is sort of his by extension, though he is quite wary of birds in general.

Physical Appearance: Peter is short (5'3") and chubby (140 lbs), with reddish-brown hair that gets darker every year, watery blue eyes, and a pointed nose. He's been on various medications since he was about 6 months old, which have severely stunted his growth. Most of his robes are also far too tight, as he's steadily put on weight since starting Hogwarts, and his mother really can't afford new ones. But Peter doesn't mind. His friends -- especially James -- don't seem to care how he looks, and that's all that matters to him. He also has no fingernails to speak of, since he's fairly nervous as a rule and gnaws them off on a regular basis.

Biography: Peter is from Bristol in Kent. His mother, Bettina Podmore (Sturgis Podmore's younger sister), works as a Healer's assistant at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. After she'd had a trying time at work one day, she went to a nearby pub to forget her troubles, and met a charming fellow who introduced himself as Percival Pettigrew. He bought her pint after pint of bitter and finally took her back to her flat, when she was too drunk to even flag down the Knight's Bus. Bettina doesn't remember much after that, but 262 days later, Peter was born.

Most of her friends and family told her she needed to give Peter up, since she still had her entire life ahead of her, but Bettina wouldn't listen. She adored her baby boy and was determined to raise him on her own, even if he was sick a lot. Bettina knew quite a bit about Healing, however, so she was able to take care of him. She started him on a battery of potions obtained through St Mungo's and even some Muggle remedies, after she'd signed him up for the Muggle National Health Service. Despite all her care, however, Peter never managed to get better -- at least not for long.

[Peter actually does have severe allergies and asthma, but this is a little more insidious than it sounds. Bettina has a condition known as Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome (MBPS), which involves an apparently caring mother -- and often a medical profession -- who repeatedly fabricates symptoms or provokes actual illnesses in her child. The condition was first described in 1977, and news of MBPS hasn't made it to the wizarding world yet. Peter is extremely lucky, however, to have survived into adolescence. If he hadn't gone to live at Hogwarts ten months of the year, he probably wouldn't have.]

When Peter started Hogwarts, he was fairly scrawny, because many of the medicines his mother gave him made him nauseous or otherwise suppressed his appetite. Once he was removed from his mother's "nurturing," though, Peter began to feel a great deal better, and he even started to put on some weight. Bettina regularly sends care packages from home with all of his medications. Peter, however, flushes most of them down the loo -- all except his allergy medications and his inhaler, that is, both of which he does actually need.

He is a horrible student and often wonders why he ever got admitted to Hogwarts. In addition to not being the most potent ingredient in the cauldron to start with, he suffers from tremendous anxiety when he sits for an examination. Despite many hours of help and tutoring from his friends, he forgets nearly everything on the spot. One thing he does have going for him, however, is an excellent muscle memory. If he ever manages to get a spell right just once, he can do it right every time after that, and he'll never forget how. He is left-handed and fairly clumsy, though he isn't nearly as slow as he lets on. Sometimes it's just easier to whinge and ask Remus for help than to do his work on his own.

Peter idolises James Potter, almost to the point of bordering on an obsession. Whatever James likes, he likes. Whatever James does, he does -- or at least tries to do. He cannot fathom all the rules of Quidditch, but he's a fairly good flyer due to his muscle memory. Since James despises the Dark Arts and Voldemort, Peter hates them, too. If James picks on Snape, Peter cheers. If James says something is okay, then it is. It has to be. Peter has too much of an emotional investment in his friendship with James to ever doubt what his friend says.

Likes: Whatever James likes (with the exception of Lily Evans), the Marauders, chocolate frogs, Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, Ice Mice, Fizzing Whizbees, Droobles Best Blowing Gum, Pepper Imps, sugar quills, and pretty much anything sweet

Disikes: Lily Evans, whatever James dislikes, Charms, Potions, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Divination, Care of Magical Creatures, and especially Transfiguration (because McGonagall is mean to him)

Extracurricular Activities: Other than helping the Marauders play the occasional prank and running about the grounds during the full moon -- though "running" is a bit of a misnomer, because he spends most of his time clinging to Prongs' antlers for dear life -- Peter has his hands full with just his school work.

Romantic history: You're joking, right? Peter has something of a heterosexual crush on James Potter and follows him around everywhere. He knows none of the girls would ever like him, so he doesn't even bother talking to them. If they talk to him, he suspects it's because they're using him to get closer to James, Sirius, or Remus. Occasionally, when he's feeling especially brave, he'll tell them off and say, "My friends would never be interested in a silly bint like you!" But that doesn't happen very often -- usually only when he's had a bad day in Transfiguration.

Goals: Peter wants to earn just one OWL. Just one. And he doesn't really care what subjects it's in, so long as he passes something to show that he's not a total failure.

Astrology: THE INSIDE OUTSIDER (Pisces/Rat) -- This incisive character, a wizard by combination of receptivity and offense, serves best as half of a team. If there is one person who can play the game in hand with a partner and win almost every time, due to the very energy created by the partnership, it's the Pisces/Rat. Neither Pisces nor Rat characters are natural hermits. The Pisces, extra sensitive and watery, when allied to the power-hungry Rat gains a certain perspective on the finite that assures him an exceptional ability to make wise choices. Their greatest strength is adaptability. Love? Well, it's a bit complicated for the Pisces/Rat because he is nervous and high strung. He requires a mate or significant other who can shoulder and comfort him when the chips are down. As a sexual partner, this person is affectionate and tender.
